Film and speaker

In this Palestinian classic, the mayor of a West Bank village wants his son to adhere to Palestinian tradition in his upcoming wedding. Custom conflicts with the Israeli military curfew. Against expectations, the father gets clearance from the occupying governor. But there's a catch: the governor and his Israeli colleagues have to be on the guest list…..

The original reels have been carefully kept by Fred Coker, a founder member of Workers’ Film Association in London in 1974 and we are very pleased to have Fred with us to introduce the film.

We will also have a post-film discussion with Fred Coker, who will bring insightful perspectives on this film.

Fred was the cameraman on their Production Unit, and headed up the Film & Video Distribution Dept., distributing a number of Palestinian titles, including Wedding in Galilee, until the organisation’s winding up in 2017. With WFA, in 1987 just prior to the first Intifada, he shot Palestinian Celebrations, on the cultural work of the ensemble El Funoun. He left WFA in 1990, and entered the teaching profession, where he was involved in a full, and then part-time basis for 25 years.
