Central Leeds Meeting House LS2 9DX

Hands-on

Doors open: 10am
Start:10.30am

Following many requests Helen is returning this year to offer another Palestinian embroidery day, this time looking at a different form of embroidery, “couching”, traditionally used on dresses worn in the Bethlehem area.

Palestinian embroidery is well known for its beautiful cross-stitch work. However in this workshop, we are looking at the couching used on the ‘’malak’’ dress, particularly stitched and worn in the Bethlehem district. We will use gold or silver coloured cord to couch down a design that can be filled with satin stitch. Your design can then be used as a festive decoration. It is a simple, effective technique which can be stitched by beginners as well as those with experience.
