Using film, presentation and discussion Palestinian journalists Juman Quneis and Ahmed Alnaouq will tell us about the crucial work that journalists do in Gaza and the West Bank to keep the world informed of the unprecedented killing and destruction. Juman teaches Journalism at Birzeit University, in the West Bank, and Ahmed grew up in Gaza but is currently a journalist in London.

With international reporters locked out, Palestinian journalists have made huge sacrifices to keep the world informed of the genocide in Gaza. More media workers have been killed by Israel since October 7 than in any other conflict in modern history.

In the West Bank too, Palestinian journalists are reporting under fire as was evidenced with the murder of Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022. Shireen was a prominent Palestinian-American journalist before she was killed by Israeli forces while wearing a blue press vest and covering a raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the Occupied West Bank.
