Balls, Barriers & Bulldozers is a documentary film about a women’s football tour to the West Bank in 2014. It’s about football, and so much more. The tour aimed to build solidarity with the women footballers of Palestine and for the UK teams (including Leeds based Republica women’s team) to learn about life under occupation.
Changed by the people they met and being witnesses to the daily realities of life under occupation, they vowed to share their story on their return. As we love this film so much, we showed it in 2015 in Leeds, 2016 in Otley and we were excited to broaden our boundaries and show it at the Red Shed in Wakefield in 2017!
As in previous years, we had members of the Republica Women’s Team for a discussion and Q & A session after the film, it was as insightful and interesting as in previous years.
In June 2017, one of the Palestinian teams in the film, the Diyar University Women’s Team, came to the Britain for an tour of eight fixtures. They played Republica at the University of Leeds Carnegie Sports Park, so our speakers will also be able to give us a fresh update on some of their Palestinian football comrades.
